Founder and Past President

Andrew Birmingham - WB2RQX, SK

Andrew Birmingham, WB2RQX, SK was the Founder of ECDXA and served as its President until his passing in 1999. He was known as a "Ham's Ham".

Andy was an avid DXer sporting 333 countries worked and confirmed up until his death in April 1999. Andy was on the DXCC Honor Roll. Andy was a part of the ARRL DXCC Field Checking Committee. He was an Assistant Director in the Hudson Division and he served on Committees in the Hudson Division during the past ARRL Hudson Division Conventions. Andy was active on the air during the Earthquakes in California, and would run traffic on various nets during Hurricanes and other disasters. He was featured as "Mr. June" on the CQ Calendar in 1996. Andy also worked with CQ Productions on the "Getting Started in Contesting" Video.

Andy was very proud of his family, making sure Amateur Radio was always a positive in their life. Joyce, KA2ANF, his best friend and contesting partner continues to be active in many areas of Amateur Radio. Andy was also very proud that both of his daughters became licensed, Krista, KB2MER in 1991 and Holly, KB2ZMM in 1995.

Andy's work for, and his dedication to, the good of Amateur Radio is seen to this day in the operating skills of those whom he mentored. The recipients of the ECDXA sponsored Andrew Birmingham Service Award continue to bringing honor to Amateur Radio.
